Case Study

Brief

A brand-new customer engaged us to undertake a major upgrade and retrofit of their existing aging equipment. Design criteria included

  • Improve energy efficiency
  • Allow for increase capacity when required
  • Reduce dependency on grid power supply overnight
  • Load shift to renewable based supply during the day.

Details

The new system was custom designed & engineered to suit the requirements and loads of the large freezer room.

Installation involved new pipework and full electrical upgrade to suit the new system capacities and Variable Speed Drive setup.

A new temperature sensor design allowed for room averaging to eliminate the volatile spikes and changes caused by the large forklift door being heavily used during the day, and ultimately extended the unit off cycles by 300%.

Frigbot remote temperature monitoring was also installed to provide customer peace of mind, but also for data analysis and assessment of the systems operational patterns. The control setpoint was automatically adjusted to a slightly higher level overnight when the load is less, and product temperatures are more stable. By controlling these variables, a more consistent and smooth temperature cycle graph was achieved and running costs during the peak periods and non-renewable times were reduced.

Outcome

  • 80% reduction in Peak Demand of this unit
  • Massive reduction in short cycling and unit starts.
  • Overall improvement of the room temperature and product shelf life.
